The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has begun hiring for new digital and data positions at its recently launched Digital Hub in Leeds, as part of a wider effort to modernise the regulation of medicines and medical devices in the UK.
The first wave of roles marks a significant step in strengthening the agency’s digital capacity and supports its long-term ambition to become a truly national regulator with a broader regional footprint. The new hub, located in Wellington Place, will focus on building modern infrastructure for clinical trials, real-time data usage, and safety monitoring.
The initiative aligns with the Government’s Plan for Change and reflects the MHRA’s commitment to more agile and smarter regulation in the health and life sciences sector.
Lawrence Tallon, Chief Executive of the MHRA, said the decision to locate the hub in Leeds was driven by the city’s strengths in digital health and its academic base.
“Leeds was chosen for its nationally recognised strengths in digital health and strong academic base, and we look forward to building a permanent presence in one of the UK’s most vibrant health tech ecosystems,” said Mr Tallon. “Our MHRA digital hub will play a pivotal role in strengthening our digital and data capabilities, supporting innovation in medical and health technologies, and enabling smarter, more agile regulation. Ultimately, this means better outcomes for patients and a more dynamic life sciences sector.”
The MHRA is encouraging those with expertise in digital health, data science, and regulatory delivery to apply for roles and contribute to this next chapter in the agency’s evolution.
The Leeds Digital Hub was first announced in June 2025 as part of the MHRA’s transformation programme. The hub forms part of the agency’s Digital and Technology Group, which was recently shortlisted for an HSJ Digital Award.
Its location places it within close proximity to strategic partners such as NHS England, the Department of Health and Social Care, Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust, and several major universities and regulators, creating strong opportunities for collaboration.
