Joanna Rowland, Director General Customer Service Group at the Home Office will deliver a government keynote at the Government Transformation Summit next week.
Her speech will focus on the central question "Is government ready?" for digital transformation. Rowland will be speaking at 9.20am and you can find the full agenda for both days of the summit here.
As government adapts to new technologies, including the rapid adoption of AI, Rowland asks are we yet in the position to be able to transform effectively.
New initiatives are easy to spot: the AI Opportunities Action Plan, £86 billion for science and technology R&D announced in the Spending Review, a revamp of data harnessing in the Data (Use and Access) Act - but can government deliver successful innovation for citizens through these programmes?
As Director General of the Customer Services Group, Rowland oversees asylum support and accommodation, passports, citizenship and visas. Their aim is to put customer's needs at the centre of these operational decisions.
Additionally, Rowland sits on the Senior Talent Committee at the Home Office, leading on strategic discussions about talent, pay and performance of their most senior staff.
Rowland's career spans multiple government departments, including most recently rising to Chief Transformation Director General at HMRC, before moving to her current role in the Home Office.
She has a strong background in businesses development, having completed the Major Projects Leadership Academy, designed for government leaders, at the University of Oxford's Said Business School.
