The Department for Work and Pensions has taken another step in its programme to modernise the UK’s pension services by migrating a key customer management platform to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

DWP Digital supports more than 13 million pension claimants and processes over £287 billion in annual pension and benefits payments. As part of its wider digital transformation, the organisation has been working to replace its on-premises systems with modern, scalable platforms capable of meeting rising demand and improving service performance.

The shift to OCI is intended to strengthen the resilience and capacity of systems that support high-volume workloads and resource-intensive applications. According to DWP Digital, the cloud-based approach will enable faster delivery of updates and new features, support more efficient integration across customer and finance systems, and provide a foundation for adopting emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.

The department believes modernising its technology estate is essential to improving efficiency, reducing operational costs over time, and enhancing the experience for citizens who rely on pension services.
